With Community Support, the Bear Smart Team is Working to Stop the Proposed Bear Management Area Ordinance

Board of Supervisors to Vote at November 18 Meeting

On October 28th, the Board of Supervisors voted on a proposed ordinance that would raise residential garbage service rates in Three Rivers at least 30% without solving our garbage crisis. Although three board members demonstrated strong support for the deeply flawed ordinance and associated fees, the proposed ordinance must undergo another vote before it is adopted. This vote is currently scheduled for Tuesday, November 18 at the 9am Board of Supervisors meeting.

There is a strong case against this proposed ordinance and an opportunity to prevent its adoption on November 18th. With community support, the Bear Smart team is engaging professional help to do just that.

Why will there be another vote?

Although the Clerk of the Board of Supervisors attested that the proposed ordinance would be considered for adoption by the board of supervisors on October 28th, California Code (GOV § 25131) requires that any proposed ordinance first be introduced by a vote of the Board and read in full — unless the Board votes to waive the reading. Five days must pass after introduction of the ordinance before the Board can vote on its adoption.

Accordingly, Tulare County Solid Waste only requested that the proposed Bear Management Area Ordinance be introduced at the October 28 Board of Supervisors meeting. The ordinance is scheduled for reading, or a waiving thereof, and a potential vote for adoption at the Tuesday, November 18 at the 9am Board of Supervisors meeting.

If at all possible, please attend and make sure your voice is heard!
